SlideMe and GetJar for mobile distribution

I read this article on Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/ArtursSosins/20140804/222539/) where a guy uploaded his free android game to various stores (without doing any marketing) and compared installs after one month.

It seems SlideMe and GetJar generate a decent amount of installs, but since the data is just for one game, I'm wondering if anyone here have experiences with those platforms that they were willing to share?

And is the FGL Mobile Platform going to include publishing to these platforms?

Thanks for the info, shajby. I see you have a lot of apps there and are doing quite well. Have you been doing any (cross-)promotion of the apps yourself, or is that all just generic growth? And are you publishing there via the FGL Mobile Framework?

Nope, I didn't do any cross-promo on slide-me apps (I m just starting one though), so it's generic growth. And no, I don't think that FGL publishes on SlideMe. Just create an account and publish your apps under your name, it's free.

(just watch out SlideMe has an approval process, quite strict and currently it can take more than 72 hours to get your app approved)

FGL's probably not uploading to these stores because the traffic is low and the traffics' countries aren't easy to monetize.  You have to figure out how to get ahead on the big app stores because the little ones don't make a difference.

True enough, although a few hundred to possibly 10k installs could make a difference at scale, if FGL Mobile Framework makes it easy/automatic to submit the games there.

According to Alexa, SlideMe.org has 17.2% visitors from India, but also 20,2% from US, UK, Canada, and Germany combined. GetJar.com has mainly Indian and Italian traffic, though.

Thanks for this. I tried one game on slideme.org and got over 10k installs in a week or so. Could definitely be worth trying out.

Our focus has changed a bit since we started the mobile platform.  At first the OEM channels, particularly Nook & Amazon were providing significant income.  The value of those markets has declined significantly over the past 18 months and we re-focused our efforts instead on GooglePlay and trying to achieve a higher market share.

This is working well and we've had 4 games reach the top 10 charts (US market) in the last 3 months.  Earlier this week we actually held both the #9 and #10 spot.

That said we are still exploring markets like SlideMe and the 100s of other OEM stores.  It's a lower priority vs. finding a new ad provider or strategy to further grow GooglePlay but still very much on our radar.

SlideMe reported installs are way higher than in reality, so don't get your hopes up. For me Flurry and Chartboost support the same number - 1/6 of what SlideMe claims.
