Swivel is the absolute best. Totally free and developed in-house at newgrounds: http://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/creator-resources/flash-resources/swivel

Nothing else out there comes close.

Free is good!  But similar issues with Swivel as the other Swf converters.  FAQ reads:

Swivel will probably not work well with the following features:
- getTimer, setTimeout, and Timers
- Sound complete events
- Loading assets external, such as XML or Sounds
- Dynamically loaded SWFs (including those embedded using the Embed metadata)
- TLF Text Fields with Linkage set to Preloader SWF
- Stage3D

Fair enough; I posted as OP didn't specify his exact needs.

But why would those things be necessary for making a video (.mov or .mp4)? Its not like the functionality would carry over. Unless you're trying to demo gameplay or something, but then a screen capturing software would probably be more appropriate. That and editing in sounds, text, etc.

well given that this a flash gaming site, i think that's probably exactly what everyone is after here...

Thanks for the recommendation though

Sure its a flash game site. Art is half the product though and sometimes people want intro videos, etc. and who knows what OP actually came in here looking for.

I've had a lot of fun with iShowU (it can record anything digital, including game play, then renders it as a .mov file).  No problems yet (the save speed is whoa).  Hope this helps.:D
